I have the pleasure...
... to be able to tell you that this website and its newsletter receive a lot more attention than you'd expect in a society with only 200 members and without any advertisement. From March 1999 until now we had an average of 300 visitors per month on the website. |
Holistic planning
... is this edition's focus topic. Why? Systems thinking (or holistic thinking) is a standing expression for many people with an ecological background. You may share the subconscious feeling with me, that, if only we were able to consider all factors in a holistic manner, then we could come to "the right" decision which then would lead to "the best" (and hopefully greenest) solution.
Yet, nobody can really tell you how to exactly consider "all things". The idea behind choosing "holistic planning" as focus topic was, to take a closer look at the existing real world attempts in the wastewater sector to achieve this goal. In this newsletter, four authors working as scientists and / or practising engineers are presenting their ideas and experiences. |

Disclaimer
Please keep in mind while reading, that the goal of this newsletter is to stimulate the free exchange of ideas among people interested in Ecological Engineering, and that this is not a full-fledged journal. We want to provide a forum for practitioners of the field and for scientists working on applied questions.
It is my role as the editor,to guarantee for an interesting, up-to-date choice of articles and news with good quality and relevance to real world problems.I will also further develop the tools for communication available on this website. However, if you are looking for high standard scientific papers, you are better off with the traditional journals. |
Next focus topic
From now on, every edition of this newsletter will be focused on a special topic of interest to Ecological Engineers. The next one will be "Educating Ecological Engineers". If your school or university is active in this field, I hereby invite you to write to me. |
Please don't hesitate
... to send in your contribution, either directly to me or to the EcoEng correspondent next to you and share your knowledge and experience with the Ecological Engineering community.
Also in the name of Johannes Heeb, the president of IEES, I wish you a happy and successful year 2000 Andreas Schoenborn |
