Urine Recycling - Recent Insights

By Andreas Schönborn, Editor

Nutrient balances and common sense suggest: Recycling of urine is a good solution for many water problems of the future. It would also be a first step towards a new philosophy in fresh water protection: A step towards source reduction, away from end-of-pipe solutions.

In the last few years, research projects in Sweden and Switzerland have tried to gain more insight into the processes and practical feasibility related to urine collection, storage and its reuse in agriculture.

EcoEng Newsletter 2/2001 will focus on results of these projects. Stay tuned!
